In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.     It was pretty much dead before JJ Abrams. He brought it back and infused freshness into it. That's your opinion I suppose, but I like a little action in my Star Trek movies (the Original Series, which I prefer, had lots of action). I don't see what's so sacrilegious about bringing Star Trek to a wider audience. A new generation, if you will.

    Wonder who introduced the foghorn sound? Its so popular that alot of movies use it. I think its time for a change for the sake of originality. I think Hollywood should start sampling fart sounds.

    You seem to think you've made some incredibly profound point by indicating that the current direction of the franchise is a marketing strategy designed to increase its longevity. To coin a phrase - "duh". I'm perfectly aware of that, you're stating the obvious. My comment - if you'd actually bothered to read it, or attempted to comprehend it - is that this has stripped Star Trek of many of the qualities that made it great. Why keep it alive just for the sake of it? For money - and that's sad.
