On Wednesday, March 14, 2012, Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) was presented the Edwin C. Whitehead Award for Medical Research Advocacy for her leadership and support for medical research, public health and prevention, regulatory science and the physical sciences, as well as her support for research as a force for economic competitiveness. The award recognizes exemplary leaders, particularly those in public office, who have shown commitment to advancing health research as a national priority and who galvanize others in support of science.
