The solution is not that difficult. Social Security needs a little tweaking, both in revenues and in benefits. Medicare is insurance. If we aren't paying the premiums necessary to fund expenses, raise premiums and reduce expenses. The third leg to our problem is military spending. We have to get to a reasonable level of spending. We can't spend 10 times as much as the next largest military budget in the world (how about 5 times?). Let's not sacrifice the environment to fund war.

Actually, the first thing that needs to be done, that in all likelihood will not be done is to force the Democrats to propose and pass a budget. We don't need to continue to piecemeal our financial policies as we have for the past 3 years. I would shut down the government if there is no willingness to actually address all of the issues through the budget process. Failure to do so would indicate that the Democrats are not serious in actually working on and resolving the problems we face.

The honest answer is probably not something that people want to hear or that politicians have the backbone to do. You have to go where the money is. We spend 30-40% more than we take in. Entitlements such as medicare, etc. would be first on the chopping block and military spending would be next. We would have to rethink our priorities and figure out how to do what we have to do with a lot less money.

If the Hon. Mr. Ribble wanted a pro-growth tax-code, Then he would work toward ending the income tax and the corporate tax.

If you cap deductions then the taxpayer has to pay more in taxes. Enough with the dishonest rhetoric. The right thing to do is to reduce government spending. Period. Do not cave in to the demands of the left.
