Sen. Brown Announces New Resources for Champaign County Airport

FAA Funding Will Help to Rehabilitate Runway, Improve Terminal Building at Grimes Field Airport in Urbana

WASHINGTON, D.C. – New federal resources have been awarded to an airport in Champaign County. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the City of Urbana has been awarded federal resources through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to rehabilitate the runway and improve wheelchair-accessibility of the terminal building at the Grimes Field Airport.

“The Grimes Field Airport provides important travel services to area small businesses, recreational pilots, flight students, and visitors,” Brown said. “This funding will improve the safety and efficiency of the airport so it can remain a reliable option for the county.”

The airport will receive a $150,000 grant to complete the project.
