Brown Announces Appointment Of Central Ohioan To Key Access Advisory Board
Marc Guthrie, of Newark, is Named to Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Access Board
WASHINGTON, D.C. – A Newark City Councilman was named to a key access advisory board. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that Marc D. Guthrie was appointed to serve on the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Access Board. Guthrie is one of 13 members appointed by the President in addition to 12 representatives from Federal departments.
“After serving Ohioans for nearly 30 years, Marc Guthrie will now lend his advocacy on a national level to the disability community,” Brown said. “Marc is committed to equality of opportunity and I have no doubt that he will work tirelessly each day to remove barriers so that all Americans may be full participants in our society.”
Guthrie is the director of development and advocacy for the American Council of the Blind of Ohio. He is also a City Councilman At-Large in Newark and served as the President of Newark City Council from 2004-2009. He previously served as the business and human resources administrator for District Five of the Ohio Department of Transportation from 2009 to 2011 and the executive director and chief executive officer of United Cerebral Palsy of Central Ohio from 1995 to 2001. Guthrie first served on the United States Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Access Board from 1996 to 2005. He also was a State Representative for the 77th House District in the Ohio House of Representatives. He is a graduate of Ohio Dominican College.
The U.S. Access Board is an independent Federal agency that advises on accessible design under the Americans with Disabilities Act and other laws. The governing board is coordinates among Federal agencies to directly represent the public—especially people with disabilities.
