On December 14, 2011, President Obama marked the exit of U.S. troops from Iraq with the words "As your commander in chief and on behalf of a grateful nation, I am proud to finally say these two words—welcome home.” One year later, Chicago will honor the return of veterans of the Iraq War at the “Chicago Welcomes Home the Heroes Parade.” All veterans, active duty servicemembers, and military family...
members are invited to participate and march in the parade. Those who have previously served in our military deserve our deepest appreciation, and I encourage all Chicagoans to show their gratitude by attending the parade this weekend.

To the thousands of men and women in uniform from all across America who are still serving overseas, in Afghanistan and throughout the world: thank you for your service. Keep safe, and we look forward to your coming home soon.
