REP. NORM DICKS ANNOUNCES 2003 ACADEMY NOMINATIONS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Norm Dicks has nominated a number of talented local students to vacancies at United States military academies for the upcoming academic year.

            Rep. Dicks, who serves as a senior member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee in the House of Representatives, offered nominations this year to students from Gig Harbor, Port Angeles, Lakewood, Tacoma, Bremerton, Forks, University Place and Fircrest. 

            "This is a great opportunity for students who will gain a first class education as they develop into our nation's next generation of military leadership," said Rep. Dicks.  "These students are among the best, the brightest and the most highly-motivated members of the class of 2003, and I am proud to forward their names to our four service academies for consideration," the congressman added.

            Rep. Dicks noted that there is typically a high level of interest in an academy education among students in the 6th Congressional District, which is home to numerous defense installations and a large population of military veterans.    

        The nominees for the classes entering the academies in the summer of 2003 are as follows (note that some students are nominated for more than one academy, and that hometown of record is listed):
