City to Observe Christmas Holiday on Dec. 24 - 25

The City of Raleigh will observe the Christmas Day holiday on Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25. Most administrative offices will be closed both days. Emergency police, fire and rescue services may be reached by calling 9-1-1.

During the week of Christmas, the curbside collection schedule will change for garbage, recycling and yard waste. See the chart below.

Residential Garbage, Recycling and Yard Waste Collection

Monday, Dec. 24 Holiday. No collections done on Mondays.
Tuesday, Dec. 25
Holiday. No scheduled collection.
Wednesday, Dec. 26
Tuesday’s curbside cart routes will be collected for garbage, recycling and yard waste.
Thursday, Dec. 27
Wednesday’s curbside cart routes will be collected for garbage, recycling and yard waste.
Friday, Dec. 28
Thursday’s curbside cart routes will be collected for garbage, recycling and yard waste.
Saturday, Dec. 29
Friday’s curbside cart routes will be collected for garbage, recycling and yard waste.


Yard Waste Center

The Yard Waste Center will be closed on Monday, Dec. 24, and Tuesday, Dec. 25. It will reopen on Wednesday, Dec. 26 and operate on a normal schedule the remainder of the week.

Capital Area Transit


Capital Area Transit (CAT) buses will run on Monday, Dec. 24, with final departures from Moore Square occurring at 7 p.m. Express bus routes offered by the Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) are not operating at all on Christmas Eve Day. All CAT buses, including those used on TTA express routes, will not be in service on Christmas Day, Dec. 25. Regular bus service resumes on Dec. 26.
