On Wednesday August 1, 2012, U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), Chairwoman of the Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Subcommittee and a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, today spoke on the Senate floor on the importance of moving forward with cybersecurity legislation.

"Right now, our adversaries are watching us. They're saying, 'our first line of attack is for them to do nothing,'" Senator Mikulski said. "We don't want a digital Pearl Harbor. We can act now. It is within our power to protect, defend and deter these attacks. I want us to have a sense of urgency. I want us to go to the edge of our chair. I want to do our best thinking to be able to do the kind of job we need to do in order to find a sensible center on how we can do that. We must put aside partisan differences and ideological viewpoints. We need to act, and we need to act in the defense of the United States of America."
