Brown Announces New Resources For Western Ohio Agricultural Producers Affected By Hail In July 2012
Following Hail on July 1, 2012, Agricultural Producers and Farmers in Ottawa, Erie, Lucas, Sandusky, Wood, Butler, Darke, Defiance, Hamilton, Mercer, Paulding, Preble, Van Wert, and Williams Counties are Eligible for Emergency Funding
WASHINGTON, D.C. – New federal assistance is available for farmers and agricultural producers in Ottawa, Erie, Lucas, Sandusky, Wood, Butler, Darke, Defiance, Hamilton, Mercer, Paulding, Preble, Van Wert, and Williams County farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers who experienced crop or production loss due to hail that occurred on July 1, 2012. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has designated Ottawa County as a primary natural disaster county, and Erie, Lucas, Sandusky, and Wood Counties as contiguous natural disaster counties due to hail. Butler, Darke, Defiance, Hamilton, Mercer, Paulding, Preble, Van Wert and Williams Counties have also been declared contiguous counties under separate disaster designation for the state of Indiana.
“Ohio producers whose livelihoods are threatened by no fault of their own deserve economic relief so they can replant and rebuild,” said Brown. “The USDA disaster designation for farmers from these counties provides support for Ohioans who work to support our state’s largest industry.”
With this disaster designation, primary and contiguous counties are eligible to be considered for assistance from the Farm Service Agency (FSA) for emergency loans (EM). Farmers in eligible counties have 8 months from the date of a disaster declaration to apply for emergency loan assistance.
