  1. '"The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.'" Luke 2:10-11

Eternally grateful for the greatest gift of all. Joy to the world, the Christ is born! Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!!

  4. 12 days until we reach the fiscal cliff! I talked with Lou Dobbs last night on Fox Business about what needs to be done to avert the fiscal cliff. While the President slow-walks America to the edge of the fiscal cliff, we must continue to do everything we can to protect American families, our economy, and our national security. 5. Great idea: 26 for 26 run in Nashville this Saturday. All proceeds will be donated to the families of the lost in Newtown, Connecticut. Race starts at 8am from the Nashville Running Company. Check out their facebook event page to learn more: https://www.facebook.com/events/206120006191196
  6. The Little Sisters of the Poor, a Catholic organization which takes care of elderly patients around the world, may have to leave the United States if forced to comply with Obamacare’s new regulations. Obamacare forces many religious institutions to either violate their conscience, violate the law, or pay a huge tax. The costs may be too much for the Sisters to bear. Other countries which the Little Sisters have been forced to leave because of religious intolerance? China and Myanmar. Friends, please SHARE & "LIKE" this post to spread the word and help in the fight to preserve religious liberty in America!

  8. DID YOU KNOW: US tax code is 3,939,937 words, 7 times as long as War & Peace! Our complex tax system is one of the most expensive in the world, costing the American economy $228.4 billion and 6.38 billion hours per year. SHARE & "LIKE" this post if you agree that we need to make the tax code flatter, fairer and simpler through pro-growth tax reform.
  9. Today marks the Wright Brothers' first flight in history - celebrating 109 years of American innovation in aviation. Great reminder of why America's entrepreneurial spirit and drive to innovate is so important.

  10. I also offer my condolences and prayers for the children and other loved ones of Martoiya Lang, the Memphis police officer, who died today in the line of duty, and to William Vromah, the officer with her who was wounded but now thankfully is in stable condition.
  11. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, children and families who have been affected by today's tragic events in Connecticut. As a mother and grandmother, my heart breaks for them. May God be with the Sandy Hook Elementary community. The flags over the United States Capitol now fly at half-staff in honor of the victims of this tragedy.

  12. In February 2009, President Obama promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term, but on his watch he has added nearly $6 trillion to our national debt and more than 23 million Americans are still struggling to find work. SHARE & "LIKE" this post if you believe that chasing higher spending with higher taxes is NOT the solution to our fiscal or economic problems.
  13. The chart below – prepared by Chairman Paul Ryan and the House Budget Committee – shows what happens to projected levels of tax revenue (green) if President Obama’s tax increases kick in (blue), and compares that with recent and projected spending levels (red). As the chart clearly shows, we MUST address our spending problem in order to avert the fiscal cliff and prevent a debt crisis. 14. 180 ECONOMISTS OPPOSE TAX HIKE: 180 economists, including a former Director of the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office and a former Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, sent a letter to Congress today saying that increasing taxes as part of a deal on the so-called fiscal cliff, “would likely slow or reverse our nation’s fragile economic recovery and undermine long-term growth.” Rather than raising taxes, we need to focus on cutting spending and putting America back on a fiscally sustainable and prosperous path.
  15. In Case You Missed It: News Channel 4 did a great story about the "Rally Point" event hosted for middle Tennessee veterans last week. It was a very effective way to get the word out to veterans and their families about the resources and opportunities available in their community. We look forward to hosting more of these kind of events throughout the 6th District.
  16. Today, another state is expected to give individuals the right not to join a union. President Obama and union activists want voters to believe that right-to-work laws somehow deny union organizing rights and ban collective bargaining. However, that is completely divorced from reality.

As we have seen firsthand in Tennessee and the other 22 right-to-work states, right-to-work merely allows individual workers to decide for themselves if they want to join a union. Also, WSJ points out, "of the 10 states with the highest rate of personal income growth, eight have right-to-work laws."

  17. My statement on Governor Haslam's decision not to implement a government-run "state based exchange:"

“With the Democrats still in control of Washington, we need bold leadership from governors and state legislatures across the country as we...ll as aggressive oversight and an unwavering commitment from the Republican lead House to roll back the president’s disastrous health care law. Governor Haslam’s decision today underscores the unavoidable challenges that he and other Governors, state legislators, employers and consumers are facing as they seek to navigate massive new government bureaucracy, regulations and ongoing uncertainty caused by this law.

“Since my days in the Tennessee legislature, I have fought against both a state and federal takeover of health care, and I will continue to lead the charge in the U.S. House of Representatives to fully repeal Obamacare. As a nurse for more than 40 years, I believe that in order to truly make health care more affordable and accessible, we must advance patient-centered, market-based reforms.”

  18. Associated Press reports today about a hidden insurance fee in Obamacare regulation that will be passed on to consumers: "Based on figures provided in the regulation, employer and individual health plans covering an estimated 190 million Americans could owe the per-person fee." SHARE & "LIKE" this post if you believe that this is yet another example of how Obamacare burdens the middle class.
  19. I had a great time today meeting with local veterans at “Rally Point,” a free event at the Gallatin Civic Center that connected veterans and their families with services and resources in their community, such as VA claim assistance, vocational rehabilitation, education, employment, mental health, housing and business loans. My office along with the offices of Senators Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander, as well as Sumner County Executive Anthony Holt, Gallatin City Mayor Jo Ann G...raves, the Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs and the Gallatin Civic Center, all helped to host this very successful event. As a mother, wife and daughter of servicemen, I believe that our brave military men and women - both those who have served and continue to serve – deserve the utmost respect. It was an honor to be able to thank some of them in person today for their heroic service to our nation.See More

  20. December 7, 1941 - "a day which will live in infamy.” God bless the men and women who lost their lives in Pearl Harbor 71 years ago today. Thank you to all our veterans for their service and sacrifice.
  21. Check out the House Small Business Committee's "open mic".... Small businesses owners shared how raising their tax rates will slow growth and hurt their ability to hire new workers. With more than 23 million Americans struggling for work, leaders in Washington should not be doing anything that makes it harder for the unemployed to get back to work.
  22. In Case You Missed It: I talked with Shannon Bream on Fox News about addressing the drivers of our debt. The actual liabilities of the federal government—including Social Security, Medicare, and federal employees' future retirement benefits...—already exceed $86.8 trillion, or 550% of GDP. LIKE & "SHARE" this post if you believe our entitlement programs are not only going bankrupt, they are on track to bankrupt our entire country, if reforms are not made in the very near future.See More
  23. History lesson for Pres. Obama: Clinton worked with GOP Congress, cut spending as a share of GDP and produced 4 balanced budgets. "LIKE" & SHARE this post if you think Washington has a spending problem, NOT a revenue problem.
  24. I will be on Fox Business with Tracy Byrnes in a few minutes to discuss what I'm hearing from constituents about the fiscal cliff and what I think it will take to fix the problem. Tune in if you can!
  25. It is an honor to be selected as the next Vice Chair of the House GOP Doctors Caucus. I look forward to working with my fellow healthcare professionals to roll back the government takeover of our healthcare system. Obamacare is already incr...easing costs and long-term deficits while decreasing quality and choice. As a registered nurse for more than 40 years, I am fully committed to advancing patient-centered healthcare reforms focused on increasing affordability, access, and choice.See More
