Academy Nominations

Qualifications:

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATES

1. Must be a United States citizen.
2. Must be a resident of the 30^th Congressional District of Texas.
3. Must be at least 17 years of age, but not yet 23 years of age, by July 1 of the year of admission.
4. Must be unmarried, not pregnant and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents.
5. By law, graduates of the service academies are appointed to active duty as commissioned officers and serve in the appropriate branch of the military for a minimum of five years.

 GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADMISSION

1. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test Program (ACT) is required of all applicants.
2. Class rank in the top 40% of the class is usually required.
3. A medical and physical examination is required for all nominees, which is handled through academies and the Department of Defense.
4. A “whole person” evaluation is determined by Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson’s Service Academy Review Board, from evidence of character, scholarship, leadership, physical aptitude, medical fitness, goals and motivation.

A Complete application packet will consist of the application, official transcripts (high school and college), three letters of recommendation, a one-page personal essay, ACT/SAT Scores and photograph of the applicant.  All applications along with the requested documents must be received in my district office by November 2, 2012.
