Homeland Security

War on Terror

While I believe that we have become a safer nation since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, America and Americans continue to be targets of terrorist groups. Having succeeded in stabilizing Iraq, we must focus our efforts on the Tribal Areas of Pakistan, along the Afghanistan border. This is where al Qaeda and the Taliban have been allowed to reconstitute and continue to plot against the United.

I have spent six years as a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security and currently serve as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations and Management. The subcommittee has oversight jurisdiction of all Department of Homeland Security operations. Our first responsibility is to ensure all operations are functioning at a high level to secure the border and prevent terrorist attacks.  Scrutinizing every dollar we spend will help to ensure both fiscal and operational effectiveness.

I am briefed regularly on threats against our nation and its interests abroad.  We must continue our vigilance in securing our borders, our critical infrastructure including our ports, and our financial and energy centers.  No matter how great our domestic challenges, I believe we must not divert our attention from our highest priority, which is the security and safety of our citizens.
