One of the most important things I do as your U.S. Representative is help residents of the 11th District of New Jersey with agencies of the federal government. Although I cannot override the laws and regulations of a federal agency, I can ensure that constituents are heard and are given an adequate response in a timely manner.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

United StatesCitizenship and Immigration Services(USCIS) is a bureau of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). It performs many of the administrative functions formerly carried out by the former U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).  The mission of USCIS is to promote national security, to eliminate immigration case backlogs, process immigrant visa petitions, naturalization petitions, and asylum and refugee applications. Other responsibilities include:

• Administration of immigration services and benefits
• Issuing employment authorization documents (EAD)
• Adjudicating petitions for non-immigrant temporary workers
• Granting lawful permanent resident status
• Granting U.S. citizenship.

The Internal Revenue Service is the nation's tax collection agency and administers the Internal Revenue Code, the tax code, enacted by Congress and the President.

The Department of Labor fosters and promotes the welfare of the job seekers, wage earners, and retirees of the United States by working to improve working conditions, advance opportunities for profitable employment, protect retirement and health care benefits, help employers find workers, strengthen free collective bargaining, and track changes in employment, prices, and other national economic measurements. In carrying out this mission, the Department administers a variety of Federal labor laws including those that guarantee workers’ rights to safe and healthful working conditions; a minimum hourly wage and overtime pay; freedom from employment discrimination; unemployment insurance; and other income support.

The United States Postal Service delivers mail to almost over 130 million homes, businesses, and post office boxes. About 1.7 million new addresses are added each year. The people of the USPS handle more than 200 billion pieces of mail a year, or five pieces per address per day.
 
Social Security Administration

The Social Security program, established by the Social Security Act of 1935 and administered by the Social Security Administration, has two components: Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) which provides benefits to retired workers and their families and to the survivors of deceased workers; and Disability Insurance (DI) which provides benefits to disabled workers and their families. Old-age benefits were provided for retired workers by the original Social Security Act of 1935.  Social Security benefits for dependents and survivors were provided by the 1939 amendments.  Benefits for disabled workers were enacted in 1956. This year, Social Security will provide benefits to over 50 million people.
 
Veterans Administration

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) was established on March 15, 1989, succeeding the Veterans Administration.  The VA is responsible for providing federal benefits to veterans and their dependents. Headed by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, VA is the second largest of the 15 Cabinet departments and operates nationwide programs for health care, financial assistance and burial benefits.
 
National Personnel Records Center (NPRC)

The National Personnel Records Center is located in Saint Louis, Missouri and is the home for millions of military personnel, health, and medical records of discharged and deceased veterans. The NPRC also store medical treatment records for retirees from every branch of our armed services, which include records for dependent and other persons treated at naval medical facilities.

Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA)

The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) responsibility is the administration and management of 55.7 million acres of land held in trust by the United States for American Indians, Indian tribes, and Alaska Natives. There are over 500 federally-recognized tribal governments in the United States. Developing forestlands, leasing assets on these lands, directing agricultural programs, protecting water and land rights, developing and maintaining infrastructure and economic development are all part of the agency's responsibility. In addition, the Bureau of Indian Affairs provides education services to approximately 48,000 Indian students.

The U.S. International Trade Commission is an independent federal agency charged with determining if imports injure U.S. industries in antidumping, countervailing duty investigations.  The ITC also directs actions against unfair trade practices involving patent, trademark, and copyright infringement, provides economic analysis and research on the global competitiveness of U.S. industries and maintains the U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
