  • The 13th Congressional District & Map

Ohio's 13th Congressional District truly is a great place to live, raise a family and do business. Congresswoman Sutton has lived most of her life in and around the communities that make up much of the district, and she is proud to represent the people and places she knows and loves so much.

Originally nicknamed the “Turnpike District”, the 13th Congressional District’s unique shape traces across the shoreline of Lake Erie in Lorain County, captures the “Emerald Necklace” of the Cleveland MetroParks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and extends south to include the Portage Lakes State Park in Summit County. The 13th Congressional District is also home to institutions of higher learning such as Lorain County Community College and The University of Akron.

The 13th Congressional District stretches across four of Northeast Ohio’s most populous counties, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit, and it includes all or some of over thirty communities.

President Obama and Congresswoman Betty Sutton Announce Release of $1.3 Million of Recovery Act Funds for Lorain County Health and Dentistry

LORAIN, OH - President Barack Obama and Congresswoman Betty Sutton today announced that $1.3 million in funds authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will go to support the Lorain County Health and Dentistry Center. This community health center treats 13,000 patients each year, 65% of whom live at or below the 100% poverty line and qualify for discounted care. Rep Sutton released the following statement:

"This grant announcement comes at a pivotal time. With so many Americans without access to health care, this is the type of funding that our community health centers need. The Lorain County Health and Dentistry Center serves as a resource and lifeline to individuals in the 13th district without adequate access to healthcare. This grant will allow the center to expand its reach and services to those in need.

This is what the Reinvestment and Recovery Act is about. It offers us opportunities on many fronts. With these grants, we will be able to meet the health care needs of many constituents while also putting people to work. I am proud that I was able to work with President Obama to make this happen for the people I represent."

This grant is administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). HRSA's grants typically account for about 19 percent of a health center's total revenue. Medicare, Medicaid and other federal grants and payments total about 46 percent of revenue; remaining operating funds come from state and local grants, foundations and patient payments.
