President pro tempore Daniel Inouye (D-HI) passed away. A moderate Democrat, decorated WWII veteran, and public servant of Hawaii since its statehood, he will be missed. Progressive Senator Partick Leahy (D-VT) will replace Inouye as President pro tempore.

    •  Managing our national debt and bringing our nation back to a balanced budget are the most important issues we face in Congress today. I am proud to have stood with the Blue Dog Democrats Coalition on the bipartisan H.R. 4053, Improper Payments Elimination and Recovery Improvement Act (IPERIA). Today’s passage is a great step towards working together to find progress for the future.

    •  I'm honored to have been elected by my colleagues to serve as the Co-Chair for Administration of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democrats in the 113th Congress. We will work together to bring bipartisan solutions that address the most pressing issues facing this country.

  2. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Newton and all those affected by today's tragedy.
  3. Thank you for 16 years of service in the House Congressman Boswell.

“I started out in a tenant farmhouse,” Boswell said. “…But look what I’ve gotten to do…when we talk about the American dream and the opportunities that exist in America.”
  4. 402-0. That is the vote tally today in the House on the Blue Dog-endorsed Improper Payments Elimination and Recovery Improvement Act, which could save taxpayers $125 billion annually.

The bill was introduced by Blue Dog Kurt Schrader, Chair of the Blue Dog Task Force on Fiscal Responsibility, along with Reps. Edolphus “Ed” Towns, D-N.Y., and Todd Platts, R-Pa.

  5. If you don’t do your job, you don’t get paid. So why should Congress?

  6. Congratulations to the three newly-elected Co-Chairs of the Blue Dog Coalition: Admin Chair Congressman John Barrow, Policy Chair Jim Cooper, and Communications Chair Kurt Schrader. Three great leaders committed to a fiscally responsible federal government.
  7. “LIKE” if you want Congress to stop posturing and start solving America’s problems!
  8. This morning I spoke out against the dysfunction in Congress and the need for filibuster reform. We need to change the way Washington works to get results and avoid more partisan standoffs.

  10. Today is the 71st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Take a moment today to remember the sacrifices of all those who served our nation at home and overseas, in uniform and on the home front during World War II.

This is front page of the New York Times the day after attack.
  11. The Department of Labor job report for November is out - 146,000 jobs were added to the U.S. economy, including the areas of hospitality, retail, and professional services. The unemployment rate has reached the lowest level since 2008 at 7.7%. These numbers continue to reflect signs of an improving American economy.
  12. Don't miss Congressman John Barrow's op-ed on the fiscal cliff.

"Tax reform, cutting wasteful spending and controlling our debt are the most serious issues facing this country. These problems can be solved, but only if we can get beyond the gridlock that’s held back our economic recovery."
