WASHINGTON, DC – Following the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Congressman Randy Neugebauer (TX-19) issued the following statement:

“Former Prime Minister Bhutto was a leading advocate and powerful voice for democracy, freedom and reform in Pakistan. She believed in hope and a brighter future for the Pakistani people. She returned to Pakistan, knowing the danger posed to her life, yet she stood up to defend the principles she believed in. Her assassination was brutal, and is yet another ugly reminder that in today’s world, no one is safe from the evil of radical Islamic terrorism.

“Those responsible are enemies of freedom. They must be brought to justice and made to pay for the crimes they have committed against Bhutto and her family, as well as the other innocent people murdered in this senseless attack.

“This barbaric action must not be tolerated. The stability of Pakistan is critical to the stability of the Middle East. We must not let Pakistan fall into the hands of radical Islamic terrorists.

“At this time, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of Prime Minister Bhutto, her supporters and the people of Pakistan.”
