Neugebauer Says Court Ruling is Victory for Life, Democracy

Washington, DC – In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling Wednesday upholding a federal law prohibiting the practice of partial birth abortion, Congressman Randy Neugebauer said the ruling is a victory for life and for democracy

“Today’s ruling by the Supreme Court is a victory for the sanctity of human life,” said Neugebauer.  “Congress was right to ban this horrific procedure that ends the life of an innocent and defenseless person. And, today, the Supreme Court was right to uphold that ban.”

Wednesday’s 5-4 ruling comes nearly four years after the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act passed both houses of Congress with strong bipartisan support.

“The ruling is also a victory for democracy,” said Neugebauer.  “A majority of Americans believe partial-birth abortion should be banned.  Their will was expressed through the democratic process as their representatives in Congress approved a ban and the president signed the bill into law.”
