In Congress I'm providing leadership to help guide America through this economic crisis, particularly through my work on issues such as housing and financial services.
    About
  1. Today, 43 of my colleagues joined me in sending a letter to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force expressing our support for the task force's draft recommendation to expand HIV screening. The task force recommends that everyone ages 15 to 65 should be screened for HIV infection regardless of their risk for contracting the virus. Click the link to read the letter in full.

  3. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, & all those affected by the senseless tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
  4. Today, I joined my fellow Democratic colleagues in urging The White House to reject House Republican efforts to raise the Medicare elgibility age during ongoing debt negotiations.
  5. Today on the House Floor, Democrats are urging House Republicans to allow the House to vote on extending tax cuts for middle class families and small businesses. Click “like” if you believe Republicans should do the right thing and protect the middle class while fiscal cliff negotiations continue.
  6. I send my love, prayers and best wishes to Nelson Mandela for a speedy recovery. Mandela is one of the world's greatest leaders of our time and has faced adversity on many levels. He is a true symbol of hope and freedom, a champion of human rights and genuine hero to the world.
  7. I was proud to stand with Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic Ranking Members for the 113th Congress this morning.

  8. I am deeply humbled to be elected as Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee by my Democratic colleagues today. I believe we need a financial system that facilitates economic opportunity and wealth creation for all, and I stand ready to work with my colleagues towards that goal. 9. Today is World AIDS Day. I have been a leading proponent of legislation to increase funding and research to combat HIV/AIDS and to help those affected by the disease. Let's recommit ourselves to caring for individuals living with HIV/AIDS and rededicate ourselves to finding a cure.
  10. A new report released this week shows that a typical middle class family would see their taxes rise by $2,200, if House Republicans refuse to allow a vote. The middle class tax cut will ensure that taxes do not go up in 2013 on those making less than $250,000 a year, including 98 percent of Americans and 97 percent of small businesses. I am committed to reaching a balanced agreement that puts people to work and strengthens the middle class, while asking the wealthy to pay their fair share.
  11. In case you missed it, I joined CNN's Early Start this morning and discussed the so-called "fiscal cliff" with Deborah Feyerick.
