Local Non-profits
 
NeighborWorks® of Worcester:  The NeighborWorks® Home Ownership Center of Worcester offers an extensive menu of services and programs to train, counsel, and finance both potential homebuyers and veteran homeowners. The Center provides the resources and coordination essential for expanding and stabilizing homeownership in the City of Worcester, Massachusetts and throughout south central Massachusetts. The Center was established through the combined efforts of Worcester City Manager's Executive Office of Neighborhoods and Housing Development, Oak Hill Community Development Corporation, the Central Massachusetts Housing Alliance and Worcester Community Housing Resources.
 
Catholic Social Services of Fall River, Inc.:  Housing and Housing Retention Programs are funded through Catholic Charities USA and Fannie Mae. The "No Place Like Home" is a HUD-Certified housing counseling agency and is a Chapa Seal of Approval agency. The program offers housing counseling for both homeowners and renters alike, addressing foreclosures, pre-purchase counseling, credit counseling, and budget counseling.

Homeownership Preservation Foundation (HOPE):  The Homeownership Preservation Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which creates partnerships with local governments, nonprofit organizations, borrowers and lenders to help families overcome obstacles that could result in the loss of their homes.
 
The 888-995-HOPE™ hotline has a mission to help homeowners avoid foreclosure. Provided by the Homeownership Preservation Foundation, the free hotline has provided answers, education and counseling to homeowners since 2002.

Hope Now:  HOPE NOW is an alliance between counselors, mortgage companies, investors, and other mortgage market participants. This alliance is intended to “maximize outreach efforts to homeowners in distress to help them stay in their homes”.

Government Resources
 
Massachusetts Division of Banks (DOB):  DOB’s website provides lists of resources for homeowners and tenants including a guide of tenants’ rights. The Tenants' Rights guide provides renters with information to ensure that they understand the foreclosure process and are not unfairly evicted if the building they live in is foreclosed upon. In addition, the site offers a variety of information including the Act to Protect and Preserve Home Ownership, Reversed Mortgage Loans, the Mortgage Review Board and Preventing Mortgage Abuse to list a few.

Massachusetts Attorney General: The State Attorney General’s Office has information regarding: foreclosure prevention, residents facing foreclosure, tenants in foreclosed buildings, foreclosure rescue schemes, new laws and regulations in the Commonwealth, and mortgage and foreclosure publications.
 
Mass Housing: Mass Housing is the state’s affordable housing program and provides information on housing related topics such as ownership, development, and renting.

Freddie Mac - Don’t Borrow Trouble: Freddie Mac’s Don’t Borrow Trouble is a national campaign aimed at anti-predatory lending and foreclosure avoidance. The campaign uses education and empowerment to teach consumers how to protect their homes and their finances, especially during these tough economic times.
