OLSON OPPOSES UN VOTE TO GRANT NONMEMBER OBSERVER STATUS TO PALESTINE

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today issued the following statement in opposition to the United Nation’s (UN) upcoming vote on the Palestinian Authority's bid to raise its status in the UN from an observer to a nonmember observer state:

"The unfortunate support in the UN to grant the Palestinian Authority nonmember observer status is deeply troubling. Palestinian Authority leaders repeatedly refuse to negotiate a lasting peace with Israel and call for the eradication of Israel. The international community should not reward this attempt to thwart the real work of negotiating a meaningful peace agreement. Israel is a critical US ally and I fully support their right to defend themselves.  This vote is further evidence of the growing irrelevancy of the United Nations."

The UN General Assembly is scheduled to vote on the Palestinian Authority resolution today.
