REP. ENGEL ANNOUNCES GRANT FOR ROCKLAND PARAMEDIC SERVICES

Washington, DC -- Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY-17) announced the awarding of a grant for $44,640 to Rockland Paramedic Services to pay for 11 portable carbon monoxide monitors to be used to treat potential poisonings.  The grant came from the United States Department of Homeland Security as part of their Firefighters Grant Program.  Rep. Engel wrote a letter of support for the project in June 2010.

“Rockland Paramedic Services provides an invaluable service to the people of Rockland and the surrounding region.  With the increase in population in Rockland over the years, more emergencies have occurred and required their services.  These monitors, or oximeters, will help ensure the safety of the EMTs, firefighters and victims of emergencies, and I am very pleased to have been able to play a part in obtaining them,” said Rep. Engel.

The monitors can also diagnose other cardiac issues and medical complications.  Rockland Paramedic Services provides advanced life support first response service to the more than 300,000 residents of Rockland County, plus more than 3,300 people in Tuxedo.

The 12-term congressman is a senior member of the Health Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
