Washington, D.C.--Congressman Eliot Engel, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, issued the following statement regarding the earthquake that hit Haiti today:

“This is the worst possible time for a natural disaster in Haiti, a country which is still recovering from the devastating storms of just over a year ago. I urge the Obama Administration to do everything possible to help the Haitian people recover from today’s earthquake. As Chairman of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee, I stand ready to help in any way possible. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti in this very difficult moment.”
