REP. ENGEL ANNOUNCES GRANT AID FOR HOMELESS VETS

Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY-17) announced that over $400,000 in grants will be available to New York City groups to aid hundreds of local homeless veterans with job training.  The grants are part of the $15 million provided by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program, announced this week by U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis.  The funds for New York City will be provided to America Works of New York, Inc. and Project Renewal, Inc.

“The plight of our homeless veterans is a national tragedy – they have sacrificed so much for our country, and we must return the favor in their time of need.  One out of every six people in shelters once wore a uniform in service to our country.  Grants such as these are important tools needed in our attempts to correct this unconscionable situation.  Obtaining a job for many could be that first step in the right direction and the jump start they need to put their lives back on track,” said Rep. Engel.
