HORACE MANN MIDDLE SCHOOL – STEM SCIENCE FAIR WINNERS

Washington, DC -- The four won first place in the Middle School Division of the 2011 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Education Science Fair. Their project harnesses energy from “wasted wind” in the New York City Subway system. Their coach, Jodi Hill, was not pictured.

The students were in Washington to collect their award. Rep. Engel, a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Energy and Power, said, “Horace Mann is an outstanding school which I am proud to have in my district.  These students who are already engaged in finding sources of alternative energy, represent the promise of our future.  I am proud to see these students are thinking outside of the box to bring 21st century solutions to problems facing our nation, such as our unhealthy reliance on foreign oil.”
