The Senate has typically embraced new technology, but it has been less enthusiastic about bringing that technology into its chamber. In 1924 Senator Robert Howell proposed radio broadcasts of Senate proceedings, but many wondered if Senate debates would capture an audience. Similar concerns kept cameras out of the chamber for many years, but on June 2, 1986, C-Span coverage of Senate proceedings began.
