  • The 13th Congressional District & Map

Ohio's 13th Congressional District truly is a great place to live, raise a family and do business. Congresswoman Sutton has lived most of her life in and around the communities that make up much of the district, and she is proud to represent the people and places she knows and loves so much.

Originally nicknamed the “Turnpike District”, the 13th Congressional District’s unique shape traces across the shoreline of Lake Erie in Lorain County, captures the “Emerald Necklace” of the Cleveland MetroParks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and extends south to include the Portage Lakes State Park in Summit County. The 13th Congressional District is also home to institutions of higher learning such as Lorain County Community College and The University of Akron.

The 13th Congressional District stretches across four of Northeast Ohio’s most populous counties, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit, and it includes all or some of over thirty communities.

Health Care

The health of our nation's families is a top priority on Congresswoman Sutton’s agenda. She is dedicated to improving access to quality and affordable care for Northeast Ohioans, curbing skyrocketing health care costs and ending the discriminatory practices of the insurance industry. Congresswoman Sutton works to introduce, pass and enact legislation that provides Ohioans with health care coverage they can count on, protects people with chronic diseases and disabilities and promotes public safety.

With the Congresswoman’s support, the House passed the historic Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which provides more stability and security for Americans who currently have insurance, ensuring peace of mind that coverage can’t be delayed or denied; expands access to affordable insurance for those who don’t currently have insurance; reins in the cost of health care for families, businesses and government; preserves and provides choice of doctors and health plans; preserves the solvency of Medicare; and reduces the deficit by $138 billion over the next 10 years.

Congresswoman Sutton believes that every child is entitled to an active and healthy youth. That is why she worked to pass the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), which provides cost-effective health coverage for millions of children whose parents earn too little to provide their own insurance, but too much to qualify for Medicaid. It is estimated that SCHIP insures 11 million low-income children across the country, including 119,000 children in Ohio.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the leading cause of death in the United States and is the leading cause of death for student athletes and on school property. That is why Congresswoman Sutton introduced and passed the Josh Miller HEARTS Act to ensure that every elementary and secondary school across the country can obtain an automated external defibrillator, the most effective treatment for someone suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. For her leadership on this issue, she received the 2008 Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association’s “Public Leadership” award and the 2010 Sudden Cardiac Arrest Coalition’s Legislative Award.

The Congresswoman continues to fight for her constituents and for the American people as she always has. She will fight for the millions without coverage, for the millions who are breaking the bank trying to afford coverage and for people who are denied coverage. America is the land of opportunity and freedom, and ensuring that everyone has access to affordable health care is a critical step in making this country the best it can be for every American.
