WINNERS SELECTED FOR THE SIXTH CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION SPONSORED BY STEARNS

THIS YEAR’S EVENT THE LARGEST EVER/OVER 50 PIECES OF ART SUBMITTED

Washington, May 11, 2009 - “The response to this year’s competition was overwhelming; 48 students participated and submitted more than 50 works of art,” said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth). “It is an honor to represent so much talent. I thank the students for entering the competition, as well as the teachers and parents for supporting their artistic aspirations. I also appreciate the generous support of Dr. John Lofgren, the Director of the Appleton Museum, for hosting this event.”

Students from 10 high schools representing Marion. Bradford, Alachua, and Clay Counties entered the competition. The first place winner was Lally Marino from St. Johns Country Day School. Second place went to Chelsea Cutlip from St. Johns Country Day School. The third place winner was Caitlin Zaimanoiff from West Port High School. The honorable mention went to Katelyn Madru from Belleview High School. Among the prizes for first place is a scholarship to the to the Savannah College of Art and Design. In addition, the winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol.
