STEARNS VOTES WITH HOUSE TO APPROVE NASA AUTHORIZATION ACT

MEASURE AUTHORIZES $20.2 BILLION IN FUNDING FOR NASA PROGRAMS

Washington, Jun 18, 2008 - "Space exploration is essential to gaining a better understanding of the universe, as well as a better understanding of our world," stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL). "The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) also conducts vital research that carries over to other applications, creating new products and services. This funding is important to maintaining our leadership in space and in developing the advanced technologies of the 21st century."

Stearns today joined the House in approving H.R. 6063, the NASA Authorization Act, which provides $20.2 billion for the agency's programs. This includes $6 billion for space operations, $6.2 billion for science and aeronautics research, and $3.9 billion for exploration. The authorization includes $1 billion to accelerate development of the shuttle replacement to minimize America's reliance on Russia for access to the International Space Station.
