Washington, Aug 8, 2008 - Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth) will be visiting Alachua County on Tuesday, August 12, 2008. From 10:00 to 11:15 AM, Stearns will tour Electro, Energy, Inc., 12871 N US Highway 441 in Alachua. Electro Energy is a leading supplier of advanced rechargeable batteries and is the only domestic high-volume manufacturer of cylindrical rechargeable Li-ion cells. “This firm is on the cutting edge of energy technology and a great asset for Alachua County,” said Stearns. “As America works to broaden its energy capabilities, products such as these are essential to keeping our nation in the technological forefront.”

Then Stearns will go to the University of Florida from 12:30 to 3:30 PM. He will tour the College of Engineering to see the their advanced work on energy research. “University engineers pioneered a new type of exceptionally thin and inexpensive solar cells that are a 100 times thinner than silicon solar cells,” added Stearns. “In addition, the school is leading in efforts to develop solid oxide fuel cells that are three times more efficient than modern car engines and waste plant materials that produce hydrogen as a fuel source when heated. I am proud to Represent UF in Congress and I look forward to seeing their efforts to help our energy situation.”
