STEARNS TO LOOK AT EPA IN A CONTINUING SERIES OF HEARINGS ON REGULATORY REFORM

IS EPA’S REGULATORY REVIEW LIKELY TO PRODUCE REFORMS THAT COULD PROMOTE ECONOMIC GROWTH AND JOB CREATION?

WASHINGTON, SEPT. 21, 2011 – “Under the Obama administration, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has taken a number of significant regulatory actions that would impact our economy and job creation,” said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL), Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.  Understanding that antiquated or improperly developed regulations can hamper economic growth and employment, President Obama issued an executive order calling for regulatory reviews and providing guidance to departments and agencies on performing retrospective analysis on existing rules and regulations.

“In this hearing, we want to determine if the EPA’s regulatory planning provides a balanced approach in promoting public health and safety, economic growth, and job creation; and if the retrospective review will yield any meaningful regulatory relief,” added Stearns.

The hearing entitled “Regulatory Reform Series #7 - The EPA’s Regulatory Planning, Analysis, and Major Actions” will be held on Thursday, September 22nd at 9:00 AM in 2322 RHOB.  The witness is EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson.
