STEARNS TO BE IN GAINESVILLE FOR HEALTHCARE LISTENING TOUR ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 5TH

PARTICIPATING IN SMALL BUSINESS WORKSHOP ON IMPACT OF NEW HEALTHCARE LAW, TOURING UF MEDICAL FACILITIES AND TALKING WITH EXPERT STAFF

“Healthcare takes up one-sixth of our economy and is a central issue for small businesses,” stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth).  “The University of Florida is also a crucial healthcare resource and on the cutting edge of medical technologies.  I look forward to talking with our small business owners as well as hearing from the healthcare experts at the University of Florida.”

Stearns will be in Gainesville on Thursday, August 5th for a healthcare listening tour.  At 9:00 AM he will attend the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce “Small Business U” where representatives of the National Federation of Independent Business will provide a workshop on how the new healthcare law will impact small businesses.  In addition, Stearns will make brief remarks at the event.  The workshop starts at 9:00 AM at the Santa Fee College Center for Innovation and Economic Development, 503 W. University Avenue in Gainesville.

At 10:00 AM, Stearns will tour the UF Department of Neuroscience at the McKnight Brain Institute, 100 Newell Drive, with Dr. Todd Golde, an expert on developing treatments and diagnostics for Alzheimer’s disease, dementias, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurodegenerative diseases.  At 11:30, Stearns will tour the UF Department of Emergency Medicine, 1329 SW 16th Avenue, with Emergency Medicine Resident Dr. Beth Nealon.

The healthcare listening tour ends with a lunch meeting with the Director of the UF Breast Caner Program, Dr. Stephen Grobmyer, the Director of the UF-Shands Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Program.This event starts at 12:15 at the UF Shands Atrium, 1600 SW Archer Road.
