STEARNS THANKS GOV. CRIST FOR COMING TO STARKE TO WITNESS WILDFIRE DAMAGE

MEMBERS OF STEARNS' STAFF IN STARKE TO WORK WITH THE GOVERNOR

Washington, May 9, 2007 - "I deeply appreciate Governor Crists's hands on response to a crisis and thank him for coming to Starke to gauge the damage from these wildfires," said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth).  "Some 16,000 acres are burning in Bradford County, forcing the evacuation of 250 homes.  The Governor' presence there highlights the seriousness of these wildfires and the State's resolve to bring them under control."

Stearns also commended Governor Crist's quick request for Federal assistance.   Added Stearns, "The State asked for assistance from FEMA on Monday evening, and that assistance was approved by FEMA later that evening.  I look forward to working with the State in expediting Federal assistance."   FEMA is providing a grant to reimburse the State for the costs of recent and ongoing firefighting efforts.
