STEARNS SECURES $4 MILLION FOR CAMP BLANDING IN DEFENSE APPPROPRIATIONS BILL

FUNDING WILL EHANCE EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS

Washington, Dec 17, 2009 - WASHINGTON, DEC. 17, 2009 – “The Florida National Guard plays a critical role in responding to emergencies and disasters,” stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth), “and it is vital to provide the latest technologies so that the Guard can coordinate reactions in these situations. I am grateful that the Defense Appropriations Act approved yesterday includes the funding I sought for Camp Blanding’s emergency communications project.” Yesterday, Stearns joined the House in approving H.R. 3326, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act.

Explained Stearns, “H.R. 3326 has $4 million for Regional Emergency Response Network Emergency Cell Phone Capability at Camp Blanding that would ensure continued cellular service in the hours after a disaster, allowing first responders to communicate with existing hand-held equipment.”
