STEARNS SECURES $2.2 MILLION FOR UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA AND $1.6 MILLION FOR ALACHUA FIRM

FUNDING PROVIDED IN THE DEFENSE APPROPRIATIONS ACT
 

Washington, Dec 17, 2009 - WASHINGTON, DEC. 17, 2009 – “Supporting the men and women of our armed forces includes ensuring the best in medical treatment and delivering safe, nutritious meals,” stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth). “North Central Florida is an important resource in supporting military programs, and I am grateful that the Defense Appropriations Act approved yesterday includes funding I sought for two important projects serving our military.” Yesterday, Stearns joined the House in approving H.R. 3326, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, which provides two programs championed by Stearns with a total of $3.8 million.

Explained Stearns, “Under H.R. 3326, the University of Florida is receiving $2.2 million for Remote Environmental Monitoring and Diagnostics in the Perishables Supply Chain that applies advanced technology to ensure the delivery of quality combat rations and perishable projects to the troops. Also, there is $1.6 million for Nanotherapeutics of Alachua, FL, for a program expediting the healing of open bone fractures among injured American troops.”
