STEARNS SCORES AN "A" WITH NATIONAL TAXPAYERS UNION

SECURES GROUP'S "TAXPAYERS' FRIEND AWARD"

Washington, Feb 23, 2006 - From my very first day in Congress, I have kept in mind how my votes impact the American taxpayer," said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala). "I am proud of my record on tax relief and fiscal responsibility, and I deeply appreciate this recognition by the National Taxpayers Union."

The National Taxpayers Union today released its annual congressional rating on votes that significantly affect taxes, spending, debt, and regulatory burdens on consumers and taxpayers. Stearns scored an "A" rating, earning the "Taxpayers Friend Award." The rating is based on votes cast in the first session of the 109th Congress. "Rep. Stearns' pro-taxpayer score was one of the best in the entire House," stated John Berthoud, President of the National Taxpayers Union. "By consistently voting to reduce federal spending, taxes, and debt, Cliff Stearns has truly earned the title, 'Taxpayers' Friend.'"

Stearns is one of only three members of the Florida delegation to receive this award. The National Taxpayers Union was established in 1969 to educate taxpayers, the media, and elected officials on a non-partisan basis on the merits of limited government and low taxes.
