STEARNS SCHEDULES OVERSIGHT & INVESTIGATIONS SUBCOMMITTEE HEARING ON "THE VIEWS OF THE ADMINISTRATION ON REGULATORY REFORM"

HEARING CALLS ON THE DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF MANAGEMENT AND BUDGET, JACOB J. LEW, TO TESTIFY

Washington, Jan 21 -

“The health care law alone is creating more than 150 new federal agencies, and this Administration’s other legislative priorities would entail a massive growth in government,” stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL), Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.  “As a result of the health care law, federal agencies have promulgated more than 1,000 pages of new rules.  Susan Dudley, administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs in the previous administration, stated that the Obama administration’s regulatory agenda identifies some 4,000 rules under development.”

“I am concerned that new and existing regulations may prevent investments, business expansion, and job growth at a time when all these activities are critical to reinvigorating the economy,” added Stearns.  “We have promised the American people that we will carefully review any regulation that threatens to cost our economy $100 million or more. The fact that we have to limit it to $100 million or more underscores the vast number of regulations.”

Stearns has scheduled a hearing for Wednesday, January 26th at 10:00 AM in Room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation will hold a hearing entitled “The Views of the Administration on Regulatory Reform.”  The Honorable Jacob J. Lew, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, has been called to testify at the hearing on the Administration’s regulatory reform agenda.
