STEARNS' RESOLUTION HONORING ECONOMIST MILTON FRIEDMAN APPROVED BY THE HOUSE

RESOLUTION RECOGNIZES FRIEDMAN'S CONTRIBUTIONS TO ECONOMICS AND TO FREEDOM

 
 

Washington, Dec 6, 2006 - The House today approved H.Res. 1089, a resolution offered by Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala) honoring the life of Milton Friedman.  "Dr. Friedman was a tireless advocate for economic freedom, and recognized that it also promoted social and political freedom," said Stearns.  "His scholarly work on monetary policy, the marketplace, and the role of government transformed and modernized the study of economics.  Dr. Friedman's work contributed to policies enhancing our nation's economy and set a course for market reform in other nations.  I am grateful to the House for recognizing the outstanding contributions of this individual and for mourning his death."

Milton Friedman died on November 16, 2006.  He received the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1976 for "his achievements in the field of consumption analysis, monetary history and theory, and for his demonstration of the complexity of stabilization policy."  Friedman also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1988.
