STEARNS RECEIVES BRIEFING IN LOUISIANA ON BP OIL SPILL

GOES ON COAST GUARD FLYOVER OF THE SPILL IN THE GULF OF MEXICO
 

Washington, May 7, 2010 -

Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth), a senior member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, is in Louisiana today for a briefing on efforts to contain the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.  Also, Stearns boarded a U.S. Coast Guard aircraft for an aerial inspection of the spill.  “In addition to its terrible toll on the environment and our nation’s coastal regions, this spill is a significant economic catastrophe.  I want to ensure that the containment and cleanup efforts get the resources needed to deal with this tragedy.”

Stearns and other Members of Congress today received a briefing at the Unified Command Center in Roberts, LA, on efforts to deal with the oil spill.  U.S. Coast Guard rear Admiral Mary Landry and representatives from BP, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and the U.S. Wildlife Service conducted the briefing.  Stearns also toured the Unified Command Center where officials are responding to the incident.
