STEARNS REACTS TO TODAY'S FEDERAL COURT DECISION THAT HEALTH CARE LAW IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL

DECISION BY THE U.S. DISTRICT COURT FOR THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF FLORIDA

Washington, Jan 31 -

“Due to my concerns with the excessive reach of the health care plan enacted last year and the budget gimmicks included to cover its actual cost, I opposed the bill creating it,” stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth). “Today, a second federal court has found that the health care law in unconstitutional.  It is time for Congress to consider new legislation to reform the health care system with a focus on making coverage more affordable and more accessible without a massive federal intrusion.  I believe that relying on market forces will allow more Americans the freedom to choose the health plan that best meets their needs.”

Today, a federal judge, for the second time, has found the health care law unconstitutional.  This decision came from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida.  Twenty-six states, including Florida, joined together in contesting the law in a suit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  Last December, a judge for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia also found the law unconstitutional.
