STEARNS "OUR AREA RECEIVED NEARLY $67 MILLION IN FEDERAL & STATE ASSISTANCE FOR 2004 HURRICANE DAMAGE"

TOTAL FOR INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE AND PUBLIC ASSISTANCE FROM LAST YEAR'S FOUR HURRICANES

 
 

Washington, Aug 17, 2005 - "Florida has received $5.6 billion in Federal and State hurricane recovery assistance for the four storms that devastated our state last year," said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala). "Our area was severely damaged by these 2004 storms, and we have received nearly $67 million in assistance. I am grateful for the quick and responsive action by FEMA and the State of Florida is helping us recover from this damage."

The Individual Assistance Program benefits individuals and families who suffered damage from the storms and the Public Assistance Program is for state and local governments, and certain on-profit organizations. Added Stearns, "Individual assistance to the people of Alachua, Gilchrist, Levy, and Marion Counties exceeded $33,609.050, and public assistance for the four counties was $33,028,876," explained Stearns.
