STEARNS OPENS ANNUAL CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION

ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN 6TH DISTRICT ENCOURGAGED TO PARTICIPATE

Washington, Mar 31, 2009 - Congressman Cliff Stearns (FL-06) today announced that high school art teachers across the Sixth Congressional District of Florida are accepting artwork from students who wish to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition – the deadline for submission, April 28, is fast approaching.

"Through this competition, students express their creativity and share their vision with others," said Stearns. “We all look forward to viewing this year’s submissions which will be displayed in the Appleton Museum.” All submitted artwork will be displayed in the Appleton Museum in Ocala from May 9-24 including an awards reception for students, parents and teachers at the Museum on May 9.

The winner of the competition will have their artwork displayed in the United States Capitol in Washington D.C. and will have an opportunity to travel to Washington to join winners from across the country and Congressman Stearns for a reception in the Capitol, also the winner receives a substantial scholarship to the renowned Savannah College of Art and Design.

Students should submit their artwork to their teachers before April 28. Teachers should contact Congressman Stearns’ office to arrange artwork delivery by April 28.
