STEARNS' OCALA HOMEOWNERS WORKSHOP A HUGE SUCCESS/HELD TODAY AT CFCC

MORE THAN 300 ATTEND SEEKING HELP FOR TROUBLED MORTGAGES, TO PREVENT FORECLOSURES, OR TO BUY FIRST HOME

Washington, Jul 28, 2009 - “Owning a home is a central part of the American dream, and I want to help those who own a home to stay in it as well as first-time buyers to enjoy the benefits of ownership,” said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth). “The turnout exceeded our expectations and we were able to assist hundreds in addressing the problems that may force them from their homes, and we also helped those interested in buying a first home.”

Stearns sponsored a homeowners workshop today at the Ocala Central Florida Community College. Stearns brought in professional counselors and other experts to meet one-on-one in offering assistance. Mortgage crisis counseling, consumer credit counseling, foreclosure-prevention counseling, and financial counseling was provided to those with mortgage troubles or facing foreclosure. For first-time homebuyers, there were lending specialists, on-site prequalifying, and homebuyer counseling.

Added Stearns, “I am especially grateful to the 21 community partners that volunteered their time and knowledge in helping those seeking help; this was a wonderful community event.” Stearns is also sponsoring a workshop in Gainesville that will be held on Thursday, July 30th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Santa Fe College in Building R-01.
