STEARNS OBTAINS $800,000 FOR OCALA FIRM IMPROVING COMPUTER AND HUMAN INTERACTION

FUNDING PROVIDED IN THE DEFENSE APPROPRIATIONS ACT

Washington, Dec 17, 2009 - WASHINGTON, DEC. 17, 2009 – “The armed forces of the United States must be prepared to respond to any challenge and this requires the cutting edge technologies of the 21st century,” stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth). “Due to our reliance on computers, improving the interaction between computers and their human users will enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. In response, I succeeded in securing $800,000 for integrating human-computer collaboration and coordination.” Yesterday, Stearns joined the House in approving H.R. 3326, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, which provides this funding.

Explained Stearns, “H.R. 3326 provides $800,000 to Ocala’s Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, which is developing innovative solutions that allow humans, robots, and computers to collaborate and coordinate on problem solving in scenarios such as combat operations and rescue missions. This project will tie together computers and humans into a single, collaborating system by virtue of a single program that rapidly moves between all the computers in the system.”
