STEARNS NOMINATES APPLETON MUSEUM OF ART IN OCALA FOR PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

NOMINATION FOR THE INSTITUTE OF MUSEUM AND LIBRARY SERVICES 2007 NATIONAL AWARD FOR MUSEUM AND LIBRARY SERVICES

"Since 1987, the Appleton Museum of Art has enriched the people of north central Florida with its works of art," said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala). "In recognition of the outstanding services provided by the Appleton Museum, I am nominating it for the 2007 National Award for Museum and Library Services. This distinction awarded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services honors outstanding institutions that make significant and exceptional contributions to their communities."

In addition to its own collection of art, the Appleton Museum of Art includes traveling exhibitions, educational programs, and cultural events. "The Appleton Museum is a cultural treasure in our community," added Stearns. "Now owned and operated by the Central Florida Community College and the Central Florida Community College Foundation, the Museum reflects a partnership dedicated to inspiration and education."

"I am working with the Museum's Director, Robin Muse McClea, on gaining this award, and I am encouraged that Rep. Ric Keller (R-Orlando) has also nominated the Appleton Museum," concluded Stearns. In addition to being nominated for this honor, institutions are required to submit an application for the award. The award, which will be announced this fall, includes a $10,000 prize.
