STEARNS JOINS FEMA DIRECTOR PAULISON AND GOV. CRIST IN DISASTER BRIEFING

STEARNS PROVIDING ASSISTANCE THROUGH HIS OFFICE TO THOSE DEALING WITH FEDERAL AGENCIES

Washington, Feb 3, 2007 - "I deeply appreciate Director Paulison (Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency David Paulison) for his personal attention to this disaster, and Governor Crist is here again demonstrating his hands on leadership" said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala). ""Seeing the extent of damage firsthand gives you direct insight into what these communities need to recover and rebuild. This is the second day the Governor has been here, and in less than 36 hours, Director Paulison was here on the ground, which we all find very reassuring."

"In my discussion with Governor Crist and Director Pauilson, I am encouraged that we can coordinate local, state, and federal efforts," explained Stearns. "I met today with Ruben Almaguer, Deputy Director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management, to coordinate efforts with the state. He indicated that some 1,600 homes were damaged and destroyed, underscoring the need for a rapid response. We will have a great deal of work to do in the coming weeks."

Added Stearns, "My office is ready to assist anyone in the area in dealing with a federal agency. I will be sending a member of my staff to Lake County to help constituents who need help getting their disability, Social Security, veterans benefits, or in responding to this disaster. I will provide more information when this temporary service is set. My office in Ocala can be reached toll free at 1-800-888-7743."
