STEARNS ENCOURAGED BY DECISION ON PROCURING THE JOINT CARGO AIRCRAFT

CECIL COMMERCE CENTER WILL BE INVOLVED IN FINAL INTEGRATION OF AIRCRAFT

Washington, Jun 13, 2007 - "I was informed today that L-3 Communications Integrated Systems was selected today to provide the U.S. Army/U.S. Air Force Joint Cargo Aircraft, the C-27J Spartan," stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth).  "This is good news for our region since the plan calls for some of the final work on the aircraft to be carried out at Cecil Field."  Stearns represents Cecil Field in Congress.
Today, L-3 Communications of Greenville, Texas, was awarded the contract for up to 78 C-27J Spartans.  Although the aircraft will be manufactured in Italy, other work on the program will be done in Waco, Texas, and at Cecil Field.  L-3 Communications leads a team composed of Boeing, Alenia North America, Inc. (an Italian firm), and Global Military Aircraft Systems.
Added Stearns, "The C-27J Spartan is designed to meet the medium tactical airlift capabilities needs of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force.  I have been informed that the final integration work on these aircraft will be completed at Cecil Field.  Although this will be several months off, it will expand the scope of work conducted at the Center."
