STEARNS CONGRATULATES GATORS ON NCAA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

WILL INTRODUCE RESOLUTION IN THE HOUSE RECOGNIZING THIS REMARKABLE RECORD

Washington, Apr 3, 2007 - "I am very honored to represent the University of Florida and I am proud of the school as it continues its dominance of college sports," stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala).  "I witnessed an amazing performance last night by the men's basketball team, and they richly deserve this title.  This is the first team since 1991-92 to win back-to-back titles and the first ever to repeat with the same starting lineup.  I congratulate the players, Coach Donovan, and the staff on this outstanding achievement."

Stearns has prepared a resolution that he will offer in Congress commending the Florida Gators for their historic win in the 2007 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Men's Basketball Tournament.  "The University excels on so many levels, as an educational institution, as a source of research, and as an athletic powerhouse.  We can all be proud of the University of Florida," added Stearns.
