STEARNS CONGRATULATES CANDACE CRAGG OF JACKSONVILLE ON BEING NAMED MISS FLORIDA 2005

CRAGG WILL REPRESENT FLORIDA IN THE MISS AMERICA PAGEANT

 
 

Washington, Jul 6, 2005 - "I congratulate Miss Cragg on being named Miss Florida and I commend her dedication to promoting volunteerism among young people," said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-6th). "Candace leads by example, starting her volunteer service at age 14 at a homeless shelter. Her compassion and leadership abilities make her an excellent representative for Florida and I wish her the best of luck in the Miss America pageant."

Candace Cragg won the Miss Florida competition over the weekend. The former Miss Jacksonville currently is studying at the University of North Florida. Cragg stated that she would use her reign as Miss Florida to urge young people to volunteer through "Help Wanted! Calling Youth to Serve."

In addition, Mari Wilenski, Miss University of Florida, was named First Runner Up. Added Stearns, "I also congratulate Ms. Wilenski on her success; it's an honor to represent her and the University of Florida in Congress."
