STEARNS BRINGING LIBRARY OF CONGRESS TRAVELING EXHIBIT TO FLORIDA – SPECIALLY DESIGNED 18-WHEEL TRUCK BRINGS WORLD TREASURES TO THE PUBLIC

“The ‘Gateway to Knowledge’ exhibit provides a rare interactive experience where people can explore the vast resources of the Library of Congress in a specially designed 18-wheel truck and enjoy representations of historic and cultural treasures from around the world,” stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth).  “This is a unique learning opportunity in a fun environment that offers programming especially for teachers and students.  This traveling exhibit, staffed by two docents with expertise on the collection, is free to the general public.  I am grateful to the Library of Congress for joining me in bringing this exhibit to Gainesville and Ocala.”

The “Gateway to Knowledge” traveling exhibition is a national tour that highlights the collections and services of the Library of Congress.  The selected facsimiles of historic and cultural artifacts in the exhibit include Thomas Jefferson’s rough draft of the Declaration of Independence with edits by Benjamin Franklin and John Adams, a 1507 Waldseemuller Map (the first to include the word “America”), a 1455 Gutenberg Bible, Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, and original 1962 artwork for Spider-man.
